Much like a wedding ring, baptism is an outward sign of an inward commitment. The person being baptized is identifying with Christ in His death, resurrection, and the forgiveness of our sins. Baptism does not make you a believer; it shows that you are a believer. Baptism is a tangible expression of someone giving their life up to God through Jesus Christ, so that they might live a new life.
What does your baptism mean?
It means that you accept with a believing heart the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for you. It signifies and affirms that by believing, you are washed of all your sins and granted eternal life. It means that you have come out in the open with an observable life-long commitment to follow Jesus Christ wherever He may lead.
This is not magic. Baptism does not wash away your sins or grant you new life. Only Christ can remove your sins, and that happens when you put your faith in Him. Baptism reflects on the outside what faith has accomplished on the inside. Since Jesus Christ has given you baptism, by your baptism, you are choosing not to neglect His gift. You are publicly received into a family of believers who are gifted to help you live for Christ. In your baptism, you are assured of God’s good work in your life through Jesus Christ.
What Scriptures teach us about baptism?
Some of Jesus’ direct teaching on baptism can be found in Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 1:4, Mark 16:16, and John 3:23.
Some instances of the practice of baptism by the early church is found in Acts 2:41, 8:12, 18:8, and 8:36-38.
Some of the primary teaching of the apostles on baptism can be found in Romans 6 and Colossians 2.
Baptism at Christ Temple North
We request that each person that desires to be baptized meet with Pastor or First Lady. That meeting will involve you sharing about your faith journey. In addition, we will walk you through the location/rooms where you would prepare for baptism, the clothing that will be needed, as well as scheduling a date to be baptized. On this important day in your life, family and friends are always welcome to attend your baptism.
